A'ja Wilson has won the WNBA MVP for the third straight year — a record fifth overall — after leading the league at 26.2 points per game on nearly 53 per cent shooting for the Las Vegas Aces.
Wilson took 65 first-place votes (713 points); Minnesota's Olivia Miles finished a distant second. At 30, the Aces centre isn't declining — she's separating.
Women's hoops is exploding: expansion teams, attendance records, packed playoff buildings. Wilson is both the cause and the face of it. For every girl running point at a Toronto community centre, the message is that dominance this complete gets its flowers in real time now — not decades later.
