Taylor Ruck turned the second stop of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup into a personal showcase, winning 200m backstroke gold for Canada in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Saturday.
Kelowna to Tashkent is about as far as a Canadian swimmer can go to prove a point. Ruck's range — gold at 200, hundredths off gold at 50 — is the product of years nobody films. Toronto's swim clubs know the formula: mornings before school, winters in indoor pools, patience measured in seasons.
